About

About JR

JR McLelland’s journey behind the microphone began in 2007, announcing youth rodeos while his own children were competing. After his children graduated, JR took the next step in his announcing career, working UPRA and CPRA rodeos while continuing his full-time career with the railroad.

For 24 years, from 1998 to 2022, JR worked for the railroad, spending his days off traveling to rodeos and building his reputation behind the microphone.

In 2011, legendary rodeo announcer Bob Tallman offered JR a piece of advice he would never forget:

“When you have more rodeos than you have days off, quit your day job.”

In 2022, when the railroad introduced a new attendance policy, JR compared his rodeo commitments to his railroad schedule. After a lot of prayer and consideration, he decided the time had come to follow that advice. He left the railroad and became a full-time professional rodeo announcer.

Since then, JR has continued building his career, earning multiple UPRA Showcase Announcer honors and an IPRA Showcase Announcer win. Today, he holds professional cards with the PRCA, UPRA, and IPRA.

In 2026, JR was honored to be part of several historic rodeo events, including the first IPRA rodeos held in North Haven, Connecticut, and Avon, Ohio, as well as the first PRCA rodeo held at the NRS Ranch.

Together, they bring experience, professionalism, and a genuine love for the sport to every arena they work.
